amusing royal anticdotes

According to the book Oddballs and Eccentrics:

  • King Christian VII (Denmark) once leapfrogged over an ambassador from Naples who bowed low.
  • Queen Henrietta (Belgium) trained her llama to spit in the face of anyone who pet it.
  • Emperor Menelik II (Ethiopia) ordered an electric chair for criminals. When he realized Ethiopia didn't have electricity, he used it as a throne.

I always believed that the slightly, ahem, unusual acts of ancient royalty was strongly linked to their inbreeding. *sigh* To be royal or famous and have all my odd actions excused.

On a totally off-topic note, when the ever-funny Stephen Fry was asked about something disastrous to say when meeting the Queen of England he replied, "Oh, that reminds me. I need to buy stamps."
